The Washington Area Music Association presented its 25th Annual Washington Area Music Awards (Wammies) on Sunday, February 20. The nonprofit organization of music industry professionals committed to raising the profile of the U.S. Capital region’s diverse music community created the awards to recognize significant career achievements by area musicians.

Among this year’s award recipients are:

Bluegrass: Dede Wyland (Vocalist), Dede Wyland & Mama Tried (Duo/Group), Dave Giegerich (Instrumentalist), Angel’s Stone by Dead Men’s Hollow (Recording)

Country: Ruthie Logsdon (Vocalist), Ruthie & the Wranglers (Duo/Group), Dave Giegerich (Instrumentalist), Word to the Wise by Bill Kirchen (Recording)

Folk-Contemporary: Cletus Kennelly (Male Vocalist), Eddie from Ohio (Duo/Group), John Jennings (Instrumentalist), Exact Change by Victoria Vox (Recording)

Folk-Traditional: Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer (Duo/Group), Marcy Marxer (Instrumentalist), Scotland’s Fiddle Piobeareachd by Bonnie Rideout (Recording)

World Music: Seth Kibel of The Alexandria Kleztet (Instrumentalist)

In addition, Sue Trainor was recognized in the Children’s Music Category for In Our Own Words (Recording), Smithsonian Folkways was honored in the Washington Area Record Company category, percussionist Ron Goad was voted Most Supportive of Washington Music, and Dave Giegerich was cited for Special Recognition. Besides the awards, American troubadour Tom Paxton and early country music trailblazers The Stonemans were inducted into the organization’s hall of fame.
