The roots music and Americana-oriented Old Settler’s Music Festival returns to the Salt Lick BBQ Pavilion and Camp Ben McCulloch in Driftwood, Texas, April 14-17. Now in its 24th year, the festival is not as well-known outside the state as some others in the Austin area – and that’s part of its allure. Old Settler’s Music Festival also takes place during what’s usually the height of Texas Hill Country’s wildflower season.

Old Settler’s may not draw as much attention as SXSW (which continues through March 20 in Austin), or the Austin City Limits and Kerrville festivals, but it certainly does feature some talented performers. Among those on the 2011 lineup are The Avett Brothers, Band of Heathens, Audie Blaylock & Redline, Sam Bush, David Francey, Gaelic Storm, Jimmie Dale Gilmore & the Wronglers, The Gourds, Greensky Bluegrass, The Hillbenders, Warren Hood & the Goods, Sonny Landreth, Jim Lauderdale, Tim O’Brien, ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro, and the Richard Thompson Electric Trio.

Besides live music on several stages, workshops, sing-a-longs and jam sessions, arts and crafts, a youth talent competition, children’s activities, and lots of tasty barbecue are on the menu.

Discounted admission wristbands are available online through April 2. For more information and to buy tickets, visit www.oldsettlersmusicfest.org.
