Top Albums and Songs – November 2017 (FOLKDJ-L)
Dori Freeman, Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn, and The Wailin’ Jennys had the most-played albums on folk radio during November 2017, with Letters Never Read, Echo In the Valley, and Fifteen, respectively. New Jersey-based folksinger and song interpreter Mara Levine’s bluegrass-style rendition of Susan B. Shann’s “You Reap What You Sow” was the month’s #1 song. Grammy Awards Nominees Named
Nominees in 83 categories have been named for the 58th Annual Grammy Awards to be presented by The Recording Academy on Monday, February 15, 2016. Of particular interest to readers of AcousticMusicScene.com are the nominees for awards in the American Roots Music Field that will be presented prior to the live broadcast airing on CBS television stations that evening from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

It’s Music Festival Time in New York State
Music festivals abound in New York State in late June. Among those of note are Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival (June 20-21 in Croton-on-Hudson), Old Songs Festival (June 26-28 in Altamont), American Roots Music Festival at Caramoor (June 27 in Katonah) and Rockland-Bergen Music Festival (June 27-28 in Tappan).

FreshGrass Returns to MASS MoCA, Sept. 19-21
FreshGrass, a family-friendly bluegrass and roots music festival in the Berkshires of northwestern Massachusetts, is slated for Sept. 19-21, 2014. For three days and nights, the indoor galleries and outdoor courtyards and meadows of the Mass MoCA campus in North Adams will be filled with the sounds of banjos, fiddles, guitars, mandolins and voices of traditionalists and trailblazers alike.

Pieta Brown's album Mercury continues to top the Roots Music Report folk radio chart this week, while albums by The Civil Wars, Abigail Washburn, Eliza Gilkyson , Madison Violet and Colin Hay retain the next five positions, respectively. Gillian Welch's The Harrow & the Harvest retakes the #1 position on the #1 position on the roots country chart,followed by albums by Catherine MacLellan, Robert Earl Keen, Kasey Chambers, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Joe Ely.
