2014 Americana Top 100 Albums Chart Revealed

The River & the Thread, a collection of original songs that connect and re-connect Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash to the American South where she was born and from which her family hails, was the most-played album on Americana radio during 2014. That’s the word from the Americana Music Association, whose year-end Top 10 and Top 100 Albums of the Year are based on the records reported to the Americana Airplay Chart during the period of December 2, 2013 through December 1, 2014. Q & A with Dan Navarro

Singer-songwriter Dan Navarro spent more than 20 years as part of the acclaimed acoustic duo Lowen and Navarro; has penned songs covered by other notable artists (including the Grammy-nominated “We Belong” as sung by Pat Benatar); has been a singer and voice actor in numerous movies, television series and commercials; and is an ardent champion of songwriters’ and performers’ rights. Since the 2009 retirement of his late musical partner Eric Lowen, he’s been touring widely as a solo artist. Kathy Sands-Boehmer spoke with Navarro recently. Philadelphia Folk Festival Set for Aug. 17-19

Mary Chapin Carpenter, Steve Earle and the Dukes, Mary Gauthier, Tracy Grammer, John Hiatt, Brother Sun, The Holmes Brothers, Little Feat, Mark Erelli, Lori McKenna, Atwater-Donnelly, Paul Thorn, Lucinda Williams, rockabilly queen Wanda Jackson, The HillBenders, Red Clay Ramblers, Roosevelt Dime and Spuyten Duyvil are among the dozens of artists and acts slated to perform during the 51st annual Philadelphia Folk Festival, August 17-19, at the Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford Township, near Schwenksville, Pennsylvania.
