Warm weather and some hot acoustic music are in the forecast for Long Islanders this summer, including a number of outdoor concert series and festivals.  More than 125 concerts, open mics and jam sessions set for June through mid-July appear in this installment of the Long Island AcoustiCalendar.

In addition to lots of homegrown and locally-based talent, a number of top-notch touring musicians and singer-songwriters will be visiting our shores.  Among them are Steve Tilston (June 1), Aztec Two-Step (June 6), Beausoleil avec Michael Doucet (June 7),  Amy Speace & the Tearjerks (June 7), Emmylou Harris (June 20), Tom Paxton (June 21), Carolina Chocolate Drops (June 26), Dar Williams (June 28), Anthony da Costa and Abbie Gardner (July 6), and Janis Ian (July 6).

“Sunday in the Park,” an afternoon of fine art, acoustic music, poetry and dance along the waterfront in Northport Village.  Featured musical performers include: Gathering Time (the LI-based folk-rock harmony trio featuring Glen Roethel, Stuart Markus and Hillary Foxsong that has been capturing attention and winning fans with its spirited blend of folk and acoustic originals, stylistic interpretations of choice covers, and wonderful three-part vocal harmonies) from 12-12:50 p.m.; Joe Iadanza Quartet (talented LI-based singer-songwriter and percussive fingerstyle guitarist is joined by his new quartet, with Gathering Time providing harmony vocals as the trio does on his forthcoming album, Traveling Salesman) from 2-2:50 p.m.; Paul Helou (national award-winning, LI-based singer-songwriter and musical storyteller with an improvisational flair) from 3-3:30 p.m.; and Bob Westcott (an esteemed vetran LI-based singer-songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist) from 3:30-4 p.m. Roethel coordinates the music for this fee annual event that is presented by the Northport Arts Coalition.

Anthony da Costa & Abbie Gardner celebrate the release of their first duo CD, Bad Days, Better Nights, during what promises to be an enjoyable house concert in Merrick.  Da Costa, a prolific and talented 17 year-old singer-songwriter from Pleasantville, NY, was a winner in the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Competition last year and was voted as the emerging artist “most wanted” to return to the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival.  Gardner is a talented dobro player and singer-songwriter, who also is part of the female Americana trio Red Molly.  Phil Minissale, the finger-pickin’ good Long Island Blues Boy, four years Anthony’s senior, opens.  7 p.m. showtime, pre-show gathering at 6 p.m.  (www.courthouseconcerts.com). $15 suggested donation for the performers.  Reservations required: courthouseconcerts@yahoo.com.
