American folk music icon Pete Seeger, whose songs have helped to provide a musical backdrop for many of the historical movements of the past 50-plus years, will join other musical luminaries in performing during “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial” in Washington, D.C. on Sunday. Jan. 18.

Reports indicate that Seeger may join Bruce Springsteen in singing “This Land Is Your Land.” In 2006, Springsteen recorded an album of songs written or popularized by Seeger. Entitled We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions, it won the Grammy Award for best traditional folk album.

President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden also will be on hand for Sunday’s festivities that are slated to get under way at 2 p.m. ET and run for more than two hours.

Those not planning to join the throngs of people anticipated to line the national mall on Sunday afternoon can view the historic event live in the comfort of their own homes. HBO will air the concert live at 2:30 p.m. ET and also has scheduled two encore showings for 7 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. ET that are being made available for free to all cable TV operators. The concert also will be streamed live at www.hbo.com, while NPR will broadcast live from 2-5 p.m. ET on public radio stations across the country.
