Dave Fry and Peter Scapegrace Win Lehigh Valley Music Awards
by Michael Kornfeld on Nov 8, 2010 • 11:18 am No CommentsLehigh Valley Music Awards for Best Live Acoustic Performance and Best Acoustic Song were won by folksinger Dave Fry and singer, guitarist and upright bass player Peter Scapegrace during a competition hosted by Listen Live! Music in Zionsville, Pennsylvania, on Nov. 6, 2010.
Fry, who also was named Best Folk Performer last year and received a special award in 2007 for his efforts in bringing music to the Lehigh Valley for 20 years, performs at folk clubs, festivals, schools and elder-care facilities. He also was the founder and former artistic director of the renowned Bethlehem, PA folk club, Godfrey Daniels.
Scapegrace is a former member of the Bethlehem-based “countrifunked jazzabilly” band, The Unpronounceable, that disbanded in 2008.
Some 85 people attended the Lehigh Valley Music Awards (LVMA) Acoustic Competition. “We opened our doors one year ago to host the first acoustic competition and had roughly half the [20] competitors we had this year,” says Val Minett, co founder and chair of Listen Live! Music, a nonprofit organization that hosts one acoustic open mic and one concert featuring national touring artists (with local openers) each month. “What was also significant was the number of performers in their teens and early 20s. We are thrilled to be taking a small part in nurturing the genre.”
Fry and Scapegrace will formally receive their awards during the LVMA 12th Anniversary Award Show, Dec. 5, at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Allentown, PA. For more information, visit www.lehighvalleymusicawards.org.
