July 15 is the deadline for artists to submit applications for official showcases during the 14th Annual Southwest Regional Folk Alliance (SWRFA) Conference, which takes place at the Holiday Inn Midtown in Austin, Texas, Sept. 26-29, 2013. A series of 15-minute official showcase slots are slated for Friday and Saturday nights between 7:30 and 10 p.m.
Applicants must submit a CD (indicating three songs to be considered), along with a one-page bio, a photo, and $25 application fee. Applications, which can be found at www.swrfa.com, may be submitted via U.S. Mail or Sonicbids.
In addition to the coveted official showcase slots, artists will have other opportunities to perform and gain exposure to presenters, folk DJs and others in attendance at the conference. These include late-night showcases in attendees’ hotel rooms and open mics .An exhibit hall and seminars exploring various facets of the music business also are on the conference agenda, as are plenty of opportunities for networking. Discounted conference registration ($195 including five meals and a cocktail party) is available through Sept. 16.
A regional affiliate of Folk Alliance International, SWRFA covers the states of Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas .The organization aims to foster and promote multicultural, traditional and contemporary folk music, while strengthening and advancing organizational and individual initiatives in folk music and dance through education, networking, advocacy, and professional and field development.
