AcousticMusicScene.com is designed to promote quality acoustic music by providing you with useful news and information, as well as occasional insightful commentary on issues of interest to the folk, roots, and singer-songwriter communities.

Besides including advance notice and coverage of awards and contests, conferences of note and music festivals, this online publication features pertinent U.S. national and Northeast regional news, some Canadian news, and Acoustic Radio Waves, Bluegrass & Beyond and Celtic Corner sections. Our extensive links section connects visitors to other websites, where you can learn about folk, roots and other acoustic music organizations, songwriters associations, presenters and venues, open mics and jams, resources for musicians, and artists performing in areas in which you live, work or travel.

AcousticMusicScene.com and several of its sections are updated frequently. If you have pertinent news to share with others through the site, please contact us for consideration.

As part of our ongoing efforts to forge connections and build community for performers, presenters and fans of folk, roots and other acoustic music styles, we established AcousticMusicScene.com groups and discussion forums on social networks Facebook and LinkedIn. You are invited to join the groups and the conversation, connect with others from across the U.S., Canada, and around the world who share your interests, and exchange ideas and information. AcousticMusicScene.com also hosts late-night song swaps and showcases at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and at conferences presented by Folk Alliance International regional affiliates throughout North America — most frequently those of Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) and Southeast Regional Folk Alliance (SERFA).

Please enjoy AcousticMusicScene.com, visit often and tell your friends about it.

Michael Kornfeld (editor and publisher) is an award-winning public relations strategist and writer with a passion for folk, roots and acoustic music. His PR services and strategic counsel have proved invaluable to independent recording artists, live music presenters, corporations, elected officials, nonprofit organizations, and professional services firms.

A frequent speaker on PR and communications topics, Michael has moderated and participated on panels at international, national and regional conferences including those of Folk Alliance International and its regional affiliates across North America, Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS), and Singer-Songwriter Cape May. He has promoted such events as Huntington Folk Festivals, “Just Wild About Harry” (an annual concert in tribute to Harry Chapin), the Long Island Bluegrass Festival, and several concert series.

In 2007, he launched AcousticMusicScene.com — an online publication for the folk, roots and singer-songwriter communities. Under its banner, he has hosted a popular Midnight Hoot and late-night showcases during the annual NERFA and SERFA conferences and late-night song swaps & song circles at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Michael has been president of the Folk Music Society of Huntington (NY) since 2010 and curated the Huntington Folk Festival from 2007-2023. A past president of the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) board, he currently serves as a board member of Long Island’s Cinema Arts Centre and formerly served on the boards of Folk Alliance International, The Eclectic Café (Bay Shore, NY) and Tribes Hill (Valhalla, NY).

Prior to starting his own practice, Michael held various PR and communications management positions within the telecommunications industry (Verizon and its predecessors) and directed the national media relations efforts for the Bell Atlantic Foundation. He has advised and provided communications services for elected officials and political candidates. Michael is a past president of both the New York chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and Public Relations Professionals of Long Island (PRPLI). A former contributing writer for The New York Times, he served on the boards of both the Long Island and New York City chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists and remains active in media circles. For many years, he co-wrote and sang song parodies poking fun at newsmakers for the Press Club of Long Island’s annual holiday show and still occasionally performs during open mics preceding concerts that he emcees monthly for both the Folk Music Society of Huntington and the Our Times Coffeehouse on Long Island.

Glen Roethel (words, music, and art): Glen helped Mike create AcousticMusicScene.com in 2007. His graphic design skills and technical know-how complemented Mike’s editorial skills during the online publication’s first five years, and he continues to provide much valued counsel while focusing more of his effort and energies toward his own music career. Get Glen’s help with your projects at https://dreamable.cc and with your livestreaming efforts at https://streamable.cc.

Glen Roethel is an award-winning singer-songwriter, sought-after entertainer, accompanist (guitar and vocal), music producer, harmony arranger, teacher, and mentor. Blending influences from thousands of pop, folk, jazz, and rock songs in his repertoire, Roethel delivers a unique one-man-band sound to his tender ballads, personal memoirs, light-hearted tunes, and soaring anthems which grace his three self-produced solo CDs plus recordings for other groups and artists. Whether performing solo, in ensemble with his acoustic trio, Us!or accompanying artist Sloan Wainwright, his rich baritone-tenor voice and “Angel” Gibson guitar complement perfectly. In 2007, Penny Nichols asked Roethel to teach at SummerSongs, opening the door to a wave of invitations. Today Roethel brings his creative curricula to some of the nation’s leading music retreats including David Roth’s Cape Cod Songwriters Retreat, Cosy Sheridan’s Moab Folk Camp and The Song Sessions, and the emPower Music Festival. He also entertains at trade shows, conferences, parties, and festivals, sings his songs at venues and house concerts across the US, and co-leads annual music-oriented trips to Ireland. Between shows and events Roethel uses his spare time to empower hit singer-songwriters across the country with design, marketing, tech, and livestream concert support. ~ glenroethel.com
