More than 250 people will converge on the Montreat Conference Center in Montreat, North Carolina, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, near Asheville, May 17-21, 2017 for the 10th annual Southeast Regional Folk Alliance (SERFA) Conference featuring contemporary and traditional folk music, networking and learning opportunities. Winners Named in 2017 Songwriter Serenade
Andrew Delaney has been named the first-place winner in the 2017 Songwriter Serenade competition. He was among 15 songwriters who were invited to showcase several of their original songs and compete for $7,000 in prize money at Moravia Performance Hall in Moravia, Texas, on Saturday, May 6.

Top Albums & Songs of April 2017 (FOLKDJ-L)
Southern Indiana-based singer-songwriter Tim Grimm and the Family Band had the most-played album (A Stranger In This Time) on folk radio for a second consecutive month, while Boston, Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter Alice Howe’s “Homeland Blues" was the #1 song in April 2017. So say charts compiled by Richard Gillmann from radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in all folk-based music on the radio.

2017 Telluride Troubadour Finalists Named
Ten singer-songwriters have been selected as finalists in the 2017 Telluride Troubadour Competition, held in conjunction with the 44th Telluride Bluegrass Festival, a roots-oriented music festival set amid Colorado’s rugged San Juan Mountains, June 15-18. They will now vie for cash and other prizes, as well as the honor of being named this year’s Telluride Troubadour.

The Philadelphia Songwriters Project Names Ten Finalists in its 2017 Songwriting Contest
Finalists have been named in the 12th annual songwriting contest produced by The Philadelphia Songwriters Project. The 10 finalists have been invited to compete in a live finals showcase on Sunday afternoon, May 21, at Ardmore Music Hall in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, during which a panel of celebrity judges and the audience will select four winners and two alternates. Winners will be afforded non-compensated opportunities to perform during various festivals and concert series in the region this summer.

2017 JUNO Awards Presented in Ottawa
Artist and Album of the Year honors went to the late Leonard Cohen, while William Prince took home Contemporary Roots Album of the Year and The East Pointers won Traditional Roots Album of the Year during the 2017 JUNO Awards ceremonies that took place April 1 and 2 at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario -- Canada’s capital city. Award recipients in these and some three-dozen other categories were selected by members of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS).
