Winners Named in Mid-Atlantic Song Contest
Winners have been named in the 30th annual Mid-Atlantic Song Contest (MASC) presented by the Songwriters’ Association of Washington. The overall top honors were presented during a Jan. 19 awards gala at Jammin’ Java in Vienna, Virginia. Preliminary winners in each of 11 separate categories were announced weeks earlier.

South Florida Folk Festival Celebrates 20 Years in January 2014
The South Florida Folk Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2014. Presented by the nonprofit Broward Folk Club, the festival returns as a two-day event in a park setting on Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 18-19. More than 40 musicians will perform on two stages at Fort Lauderdale’s Hugh Taylor Birch State Park over the weekend.

Nominees Named for 2013 Canadian Folk Music Awards
With four nominations each, Ontario’s 15-piece Lemon Bucket Orkestra, fiddler Jaron Freeman-Fox & The Opposite of Everything, and multiple Juno award-winning singer-songwriter David Francey are the top nominees vying for 2013 Canadian Folk Music Awards that are slated to be presented during a gala event at the University of Calgary Theatre in Calgary, Alberta, Nov. 10.

IBMA Presents Awards for 2013
The Gibson Brothers were named Entertainer of the Year during the 24th Annual Bluegrass Music Awards show on Thursday night, Sept. 26, at Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh, North Carolina. It was the second straight year that the quintet from upstate New York received the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA)’s top honor.

Entries Sought in 2014 South Florida Folk Festival Singer-Songwriter Competition
Singer-songwriters from throughout the U.S. are invited to enter the 2014 South Florida Folk Festival’s singer-songwriter competition. The submission deadline is Nov. 10. A preliminary selection committee from the local folk community will choose 12 finalists, each of whom will perform two songs live during the South Florida Folk Festival at Hugh Birch State Park in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 18.
