Rose Garden Coffeehouse Hosts 21st Annual Performing Songwriter Competition

April 15 is the entry deadline for the 21st Annual Rose Garden Coffeehouse Performing Songwriter Competition. Judges will select three finalists to perform their two submitted songs during live finals on May 18, preceding The Squeezebox Stompers’ featured performance that evening, says Mac McLanahan, artistic director for the monthly, all-volunteer, nonprofit acoustic music series. Winners Named in 55th Grammy Awards

Mumford & Sons received the coveted award for Album of the Year for its sophomore release, Babel, during the 55th Annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 10, 2013. The live televised broadcast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles featured performances by the rootsy British indie folk-rock band and acoustic folk-rockers The Lumineers, among others. Most of the winners in more than 75 categories were announced during ceremonies held earlier in the day. The Philadelphia Songwriters Project Seeks Contest Entries

Entries will be accepted through March 26 in the 2013 songwriting contest produced by The Philadelphia Songwriters Project, which is open to performing songwriters in all genres. A.J. Croce is the overall grand prize winner in the ninth annual International Acoustic Music Awards. Tony Denikos Wins Mid-Atlantic Song Contest

Tony Denikos has been named the grand prize winner in the 29th Annual Mid-Atlantic Song Contest produced by the Songwriters' Association of Washington. The Sykesville, Maryland-based contemporary folk-Americana singer-songwriter was honored during an awards gala on Jan. 7 at Jammin’ Java in Vienna, Virginia. Denikos was recognized for his song, “Tip of My Tongue,” which was previously named the first place (Gold) winner in the contest’s Folk/Acoustic category. Entries are now being sought for the 2013 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition for Emerging Songwriters to be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26, 2013, during the 42nd Annual Kerrville Folk Festival. 2012 Canadian Folk Music Awards Presented

The 2012 Canadian Folk Music Awards were presented in Saint John, New Brunswick on Saturday evening, Nov. 17, and streamed online on Roots Music Canada’s website.
