Winners Named in International Songwriting Competition

Singer-songwriter Joshua Hanson of Irvine, California has been named the grand prize winner in the 2012 International Songwriting Competition (ISC). The lead singer and songwriter for indie folk-rock trio Yellow Red Sparks was recognized for his song "Monsters with Misdemeanors," which was entered in the Folk/Singer-Songwriter category. Leonard Cohen, Rose Cousins, Elliott Brood Win Juno Awards

Acclaimed Montreal-born singer-songwriter, poet and novelist Leonard Cohen, Halifax, Nova Scotia-based singer-songwriter Rose Cousins, and Ontario-based alt-country band Elliott Brood were named as winners in the 42nd Annual Juno Awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys). Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Finalists Named

Thirty-two songwriters have been named as finalists in the 2013 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition for Emerging Songwriters. Finalists Named in 2013 Wildflower! Performing Songwriter Contest

Ten finalists have been named in the 2013 Wildflower! Performing Songwriter Contest. Each will perform two songs on the Singer Songwriter Stage during the 21st annual Wildflower! arts and music festival in Richardson, Texas, just a few minutes north of Dallas. Rose Garden Coffeehouse Hosts 21st Annual Performing Songwriter Competition

April 15 is the entry deadline for the 21st Annual Rose Garden Coffeehouse Performing Songwriter Competition. Judges will select three finalists to perform their two submitted songs during live finals on May 18, preceding The Squeezebox Stompers’ featured performance that evening, says Mac McLanahan, artistic director for the monthly, all-volunteer, nonprofit acoustic music series. Winners Named in 55th Grammy Awards

Mumford & Sons received the coveted award for Album of the Year for its sophomore release, Babel, during the 55th Annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 10, 2013. The live televised broadcast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles featured performances by the rootsy British indie folk-rock band and acoustic folk-rockers The Lumineers, among others. Tony Denikos Wins Mid-Atlantic Song Contest

Tony Denikos has been named the grand prize winner in the 29th Annual Mid-Atlantic Song Contest produced by the Songwriters' Association of Washington. The Sykesville, Maryland-based contemporary folk-Americana singer-songwriter was honored during an awards gala on Jan. 7 at Jammin’ Java in Vienna, Virginia. Denikos was recognized for his song, “Tip of My Tongue,” which was previously named the first place (Gold) winner in the contest’s Folk/Acoustic category.
