24 Chosen for Falcon Ridge/Grassy Hill Emerging Artists Showcase

USA Songwriting Competition Entry Deadline Looms

June 30 is the postmark deadline for entries in the 14th Annual USA Songwriting Competition that is open to amateur and professional songwriters. Winners in 15 categories will be selected by a judging committee comprised of music industry professionals and will receive cash, merchandise and/or services as prizes. Grammy Awards Folk Field Renamed and Expanded

The Recording Academy announced today that its trustees have voted to rename and expand the Folk Field in the Grammy Awards. Citing the increasing growth of traditional music, the Academy has split the category Best Contemporary Folk/Americana into two categories: Best Contemporary Folk Album and Best Americana Album. Abbie Gardner is Folk Winner in John Lennon Songwriting Contest

Vermonters are Winners in Chris Austin Songwriting Contest

Carol Hausner and Colin McCaffrey of Montpelier, Vermont were named as the winners in the bluegrass category in the 17th annual Chris Austin Songwriting Contest for their song entitled “Love Gone By.” The two performed their winning song, along with the winners in three other categories (country, general and gospel), on the Cabin Stage at MerleFest on April 24 and won an acoustic guitar, a check for $300 and other prizes. The April 3 deadline is approaching for the 2009 Wildflower Performing Songwriter Contest that is associated with the annual Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival, May 15-17, in Richardson, Texas, just a few minutes north of Dallas... The Dallas Songwriters Association has announced the winners of its 2008 Song Contest. The grand prize winner and recipient of a Gibson guitar and other prizes is Mark Glasmire of Arlington, Texas, for “Missing You.” Glassmire also captured first place in the Americana/Folk/Bluegrass category.
