Entry Deadline Nears for 2020 South Florida Folk Festival Singer-Songwriter Competition
Singer-songwriters from throughout the U.S. are invited to enter the 2020 South Florida Folk Festival’s Singer-Songwriter Competition. The submission deadline is Oct. 31, 2019. A preliminary selection committee from the local folk community will choose 12 finalists, each of whom will perform two songs live during the festival at its new location, the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds in Davie, on Saturday, Feb. 8.

2019 International Bluegrass Music Awards Presented
The coveted Entertainer of the Year Award, the top honor in the 30th Annual International Bluegrass Music Awards – presented Sept. 26, 2019 at Raleigh, North Carolina’s Duke Energy Center for the Arts – went to Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, a five-member band that also serves as hosts of the Southern Ohio Indoor Music Festivals that are held twice annually.

2019 Americana Honors & Awards Presented
Singer-Songwriter John Prine was the big winner in The 2019 Americana Honors & Awards that were presented on Wednesday, September 11 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. His 2019 release, The Tree of Forgiveness, was named Album of the Year, while “Summer’s End” was voted Song of the Year.

Monica Rizzio Wins 2019 Grassy Hill Songwriting Competition at CT Folk Fest
Singer-Songwriter Monica Rizzio was named the winner of the 2019 Grassy Hill Songwriting Competition following a final round featuring four artists during the 14th annual CT Folk Fest & Green Expo in New Haven, Connecticut on Sept. 7. As the songwriting competition winner, she receives a cash prize and will have a performance slot in next year’s festival produced by the nonprofit organization CT Folk.

2019 Americana Honors & Awards Show to be Streamed Live from Nashville on September 11
The 2019 Americana Honors & Awards will be presented on Wednesday, September 11 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. Hosted by The Milk Carton Kids and featuring an all-star band led by Buddy Miller, the awards ceremony is the highlight of the 20th annual AmericanaFest –- a six-day festival and conference celebrating American roots-inspired music that is put on by the Americana Music Association. A live video stream of the show will be webcast via NPRMusic.org starting at 6:30 p.m. CDT.

Folk DJ Jan Hall to Receive Estelle Klein Award
Jan Hall, host and producer of the syndicated weekly radio show, Folk Roots Radio, has been named the winner of the Estelle Klein Award that is presented by Folk Music Ontario during its annual conference in September. Established in 2000, the award honors the work of an individual or group that has made significant contributions to the Canadian province’s folk music community.

Winners Named in Kerrville New Folk and Songwriter Serenade Competitions
Six singer-songwriters have been named as winners in the 2019 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition for Emerging Songwriters. They were chosen by a panel of judges from among 32 finalists who performed two songs each during the New Folk Concerts on May 25 and 26 as part of the Kerrville Folk Festival, an 18-day event at the Quiet Valley Ranch in the Texas Hill Country. Winners were also named in the Songwriter Serenade that took place elsewhere in Texas earlier this month.

Finalists Named in 2019 Telluride Troubadour Competition
Ten singer-songwriters have been selected as finalists in the 2019 Telluride Troubadour Competition, held in conjunction with the 46th Telluride Bluegrass Festival, a roots-oriented music festival set amid Colorado’s rugged San Juan Mountains, June 20-23. They will now vie for cash and other prizes, as well as the honor of being named this year’s Telluride Troubadour.

Finalists Named in 2019 Al Johnson Performing Songwriter Contest
Ten finalists have been named in the 2019 Al Johnson Performing Songwriter Contest that is held in conjunction with the 27th annual Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival, May 17-19, at Galatyn Park Urban Center in Richardson, Texas, just a few minutes north of Dallas. Each will perform two songs on the Singer Songwriter Stage on Saturday, May 18.

Entries Sought in CT Folk’s 2019 Grassy Hill Songwriting Competition
March 31 is the deadline for singer-songwriters to enter the 2019 Grassy Hill Songwriting Competition that is held in conjunction with the Connecticut Folk Festival and Green Expo. Five finalists will be invited to perform two of their submitted songs during the annual free outdoor event that takes place in New Haven’s Edgerton Park on Saturday, September 7, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
