Chicago Bluegrass and Blues Festival Set for Nov. 22
The David Grisman Quintet and The Avett Brothers headline the inaugural Chicago Bluegrass and Blues Festival. Set for Saturday, November 22, from noon to 11 p.m., at the Congress Theater, the festival also will feature more than a dozen other acts – both homegrown and touring musicians – with musical styles ranging from bluegrass and blues to roots and jam-band. Early-bird general admission tickets are $31. A portion of the proceeds will support the research efforts of the Chicago-based Save Tiny Hearts Foundation, which seeks to help eradicate congenital heart defects in children. Dailey & Vincent Dominate International Bluegrass Music Awards
Dailey & Vincent, who released their debut CD earlier this year, captured the most awards during last night’s 19th Annual International Bluegrass Music Awards Show at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville Tennessee. Founding Members of New Lost City Ramblers Honored
Tom Paley and John Cohen, two of the founding members of the influential New Lost City Ramblers, were the first-ever dual recipients of the Brown Jug award in recognition of their significant contributions to bluegrass and old-time music in the Northeast United States. The two were honored during the 11th Park Slope Bluegrass & Old-Time Jamboree in Brooklyn, New York earlier this month.

Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame Inducts 10
Earl Scruggs and Doc Watson are among the inaugural class of inductees in the new Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. The two nationally known artists from the greater Blue Ridge Mountains region, which extends from north Georgia to northwestern Virginia, were honored during ceremonies June 13 at the Walker Center on the campus of Wilkes Community College (home to Merlefest).

As the title of her new album suggests, Rhonda Vincent appears to have a Good Thing Going. The bluegrass singer and mandolinist, who also plays the guitar and fiddle, was again named as Entertainer of the Year, while her band, Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, took Vocal Group of the Year honors during the 34th Annual Bluegrass Awards presented by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) earlier this month at its 25th national convention in Nashville, Tennessee.

Grammy Nominees for Best Bluegrass Album Named
Nominees for Best Bluegrass Album (Vocal or Instrumental) in the 50th Annual Grammy Awards are Cherryholmes II Black and White by Cherryholmes, Lefty’s Old Guitar by J.D. Crowe and The New South, The Bluegrass Diaries by Jim Lauderdale; Scenechronized by Seldom Scene, and Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular by Tony Trischka. The Recording Academy will announce the winners in this and other categories during cermonies in Los Angeles on February 10.
Jerry Douglas Voted CMA Musician of the Year Again
Jerry Douglas’ latest album may be entitled The Best Kept Secret but this accomplished musician/composer and producer has been a known quantity in music circles for some time now, and he keeps raking in awards for his musicianship. On Nov. 7, he added his third CMA Musician of the Award to his collection, which also includes a dozen Grammys and a couple of Instrumentalist of the Year honors from the Americana Music Association, among others. CMA award winners are chosen by their peers – industry professionals who are members of the Country Music Association.
