Nominees Named for 2016 Canadian Folk Music Awards
Ten Strings And A Goat Skin tops the list of nominees for the 2016 Canadian Folk Music Awards with four nods. The Prince Edward Island-based bilingual folk trio is among 72 artists and groups from ten provinces and two territories vying for awards in 19 categories to be presented during a gala event at Toronto’s Isabel Bader Theatre on Dec. 3.

2016 Americana Honors and Awards Presented

Top Albums, Songs of August 2016 (FOLKDJ-L)
Two folk trios -- Lancaster, Pennsylvania’s The Stray Birds and Nashville's The Belle Hollows -- had the most-played albums and songs on folk radio during August 2016. The Stray Birds’ Magic Fire was the #1 album, followed by The Belle Hollows’ debut release Miller’s Creek, while the two tied for most-played song. National Folk Festival Returns to Greensboro, NC, Sept. 9-11

Glenn Yarbrough, 1930-2016
Glenn Yarbrough, a folksinger and frontman of the Limeliters, a popular West Coast-based folk trio during the folk revival of the early 1960s, and who later enjoyed some success as a solo artist, died August 11, 2016 in Nashville. He was 86.

Philadelphia Folk Festival Set for Aug. 18-21
Thousands of music lovers are expected to converge on Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford Township, near bucolic Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, Aug. 18-21, for the annual Philadelphia Folk Festival. Now in its 55th year, the event, produced and presented by the Philadelphia Folksong Society, is the longest continuously running musical festival of its kind in North America.
