Buddy Miller Wins a Slew of Americana Music Awards
Buddy Miller was the big winner during last night’s Eighth Annual Americana Music Association Honors & Awards Show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The acclaimed singer-songwriter, guitarist, producer and much sought-after collaborator and sideman, was named Artist of the Year and also won Album of the Year (for Written In Chalk, with wife Julie Miller), Duo/Group of the Year (again with Julie), and Song of the Year (“Chalk,” written by Julie and performed by Buddy and Patty Griffin.)

KVMR Celtic Festival Takes Place in California, Oct. 3-4
Strains of “Caledonia” will fill the air in Grass Valley, California, Oct. 3-4, where leading Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean is among the headliners in the 13th Annual Celtic Festival & Marketplace. Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary, 1936-2009
Mary Travers, who rose to international stardom with the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, died tonight at 72 in Danbury, Connecticut.

Celtic Classic Returns to Bethlehem, PA, Sept. 25-27
Throngs of people are expected to converge on Historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Sept. 25-27, for the 22nd annual Celtic Classic. Presented by the nonprofit Celtic Cultural Alliance, the free event is a celebration of the Irish, Scottish and Welsh cultures and heritage. Its six stages of continuous entertainment will feature performances by Albannach, Barley Boys, Barleyjuice, Blackwater, Bua, Burning Bridget Cleary, Fil Campbell, Gaelic Storm (who close out the festival on Sunday night), Ontario’s Glengarry Bhoys, Kane & Beatty, Seamus Kennedy, Malinky, McPeake, Timlin & Kane, Town Pants, and Robert Watt & Charlie Zahm. The 2009 Just Plain Folks Music Awards will be Webcast live from the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday, August 29, from 5-11 p.m. Central Time, at www.jpfolks.com, where you can also see a complete list of nominees. Presented by Just Plain Folks -- a community of more than 51,500 songwriters, recording artists and music industry professionals that was created to provide a network of cooperation and inclusion for musicians -- the awards show will feature live performances by more than 30 nominees, while all awards categories will be announced.
