2014 Songwriter Serenade Semifinalists Named
Fifteen performing songwriters from Texas and five other states will showcase their original songs and talents as they compete for $3,200 in prize money during the annual Songwriter Serenade competition on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Moravia Parish Hall in Moravia, TX.

AcousticMusicScene.com will host pre-arranged song swaps during the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, July 22-25. The festival takes place at Dodds Farm on Route 7D in Hillsdale, New York, located in the foothills of the Berkshires, near the tri-state corner of New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
For the third year in a row, AcousticMusicScene.com joins with Tribes Hill (a nonprofit organization uniting musicians of the Hudson Valley region and their patrons in support of a music community coming together to celebrate human experience through song) to jointly present late-night song swaps during Falcon Ridge. Dinner-break sing-alongs & jams and an informal Thursday afternoon session on PR for independent recording artists also are slated.

32 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Finalists Named for 2010
Thirty-two songwriters have been named as finalists in the 2010 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition for Emerging Songwriters. Chosen from among 800 submissions from around the world, the finalists will perform the two songs they submitted during the New Folk Concerts slated for Saturday and Sunday afternoons, May 29 and 30, as part of the Kerrville Folk Festival.

Two New One-Day Festivals Slated for This Month in Massachusetts; 16th Annual Essex Music Festival Goes Riverside; Boston Folk Festival is Back for September
Despite the tough economy, two new one-day music festivals are slated for this month in Massachusetts, while the previously cancelled Boston Folk Festival is back on again for September. And the Essex Music Festival, now in its 16th year, moves to a new downtown location, along the Essex River, on August 29.

Getting to Know… Abi Tapia
AcousticMusicScene.com featured Abi Tapia in a late-night showcase during the 2008 Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) Conference, and I was delighted to introduce her during her first Long Island concert appearance in May. A very talented Americana-style singer-songwriter with a beautiful voice, Tapia will perform at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale, New York in July as one of the emerging artists voted "Most Wanted to Return" by festival-goers last year. Kathy Sands-Boehmer posed a few questions to her recently.
