Buddy Miller Wins a Slew of Americana Music Awards

Buddy Miller was the big winner during last night’s Eighth Annual Americana Music Association Honors & Awards Show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The acclaimed singer-songwriter, guitarist, producer and much sought-after collaborator and sideman, was named Artist of the Year and also won Album of the Year (for Written In Chalk, with wife Julie Miller), Duo/Group of the Year (again with Julie), and Song of the Year (“Chalk,” written by Julie and performed by Buddy and Patty Griffin.) Upcoming Americana Music Festival and Conference in Nashville Features Keynote Interview with Rosanne Cash

Author and journalist Michael Streissguth, whose latest book, Always Been There: Rosanne Cash, The List and the Spirit of Southern Music, chronicles the making of her forthcoming album, will pose questions to the Grammy Award-winning artist, who has had more than 20 top 40 country singles over the course of her 30-year career to date. Getting to Know… Nels Andrews

Nels Andrews released his first album independently in 2005. But, in that short span of time, the well-traveled, Brooklyn, New York-based singer-songwriter has earned some impressive honors and accolades with his original Americana and folk-rock songs. He’s been a Grassy Hill/Kerrville New Folk Winner, an official showcase artist at this year’s International Folk Alliance Conference, and is among the 24 artists selected to perform in next month’s Emerging Artists Showcase at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Registration Opens for Americana Music Association and IBMA ‘World of Bluegrass’ Conferences in Nashville This Fall

Two major music industry business conferences of note to the acoustic music community are slated for the fall in Nashville, Tennessee. The Americana Music Association’s 10th Annual Americana Music Festival & Conference returns to the “Music City,” September 16-19, while the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA)’s World of Bluegrass is set for September 28-October 4. Three- and Four-day early bird tickets for MerleFest 2009, representing an average 10% discount over regular admission prices, are available until April 3. MerleFest, one of the most popular Americana music festivals, celebrates the music of the late instrumental virtuoso Eddy Merle Watson and his father Doc Watson.
