The Night You Wrote That Song: The Songs of Mickey Newbury, as interpreted and performed by Gretchen Peters, was the top album on folk radio during May 2020, closely followed by 2020 by Eliza Gilkyson. “2020 Vision” by Danny Schmidt was the month’s #1 song, while Bob Dylan was the most-played artist. John McCutcheon was the most-played artist for a third consecutive year and had both the top album (To Everyone in All the World: A Celebration of Pete Seeger) and the top song (“Well May the World Go”) on folk radio during 2019. "There’s a Bright Side Somewhere” by Molsky’s Mountain Drifters was the month’s most-played song, edging out Danny Schmidt’s “Just Wait Til They See You,” March’s #1 song. John McCutcheon was the most-played artist of the month. Finalists Named in 2015 Wildflower! Performing Songwriter Contest
Ten finalists have been named in the 2015 Wildflower! Performing Songwriter Contest. Each will perform two songs on the Singer Songwriter Stage during the 23rd annual Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival at Galatyn Park Urban Center in Richardson, Texas, just a few minutes north of Dallas. Billed as North Texas’ largest music festival, it takes place, May 15-17.

Utah Folk DJ Pulls the Plug on “Fresh Folk”
After 14 years of hosting "Fresh Folk" on Utah Public Radio, Blair Larsen is calling it quits. Her last show -- featuring new releases from acoustic-based artists engaged in folk, blues, bluegrass and Celtic music -- will be broadcast on Saturday, July 19 at 8 p.m. MST.

Remembering Terence Martin, A Gifted Singer-Songwriter
Terence Martin, a gifted New York-based singer-songwriter and published poet, has lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. Martin, who succumbed to the disease on Nov. 7, was born in London, England, grew up in Los Angeles, California, and moved east in 1997 to become part of New York’s thriving acoustic music scene. He recorded and released six albums independently and was working on another one at the time of his passing.

32 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Finalists Named for 2010
Thirty-two songwriters have been named as finalists in the 2010 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition for Emerging Songwriters. Chosen from among 800 submissions from around the world, the finalists will perform the two songs they submitted during the New Folk Concerts slated for Saturday and Sunday afternoons, May 29 and 30, as part of the Kerrville Folk Festival.

Getting to Know… Nels Andrews
Nels Andrews released his first album independently in 2005. But, in that short span of time, the well-traveled, Brooklyn, New York-based singer-songwriter has earned some impressive honors and accolades with his original Americana and folk-rock songs. He’s been a Grassy Hill/Kerrville New Folk Winner, an official showcase artist at this year’s International Folk Alliance Conference, and is among the 24 artists selected to perform in next month’s Emerging Artists Showcase at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. He’s also attracted fans across the U.S. and in Europe, where he is set to tour again in the fall.
