William Prince and David Francey Win JUNO Awards
William Prince’s Stand in the Joy was named Contemporary Roots Album of the Year and David Francey’s The Breath Between won Traditional Roots Album of the Year during the 53rd annual JUNO Awards ceremonies on March 23, 2024 at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Members of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) selected award recipients in these and other categories.

Entries Sought for International Acoustic Music Awards
Entries are currently being accepted for the International Acoustic Music Awards. Now in its 11th year, the competition promotes excellence in acoustic music performance and artistry. Awards will be presented in eight categories: Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Best Group/Duo, Folk/Americana/Roots/AAA, Instrumental, Bluegrass/Country, and an Open category (any musical style or genre). An overall Grand Prize winner also will be named.

Serena Ryder, an Ontario-based folk-rock singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, with four prior JUNO Awards, was named Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year in the 2014 Canadian equivalent of the Grammys. Toronto-based alt-country singer-songwriter Justin Rutledge’s Valleyheart and The Strumbellas’ We Still Move on Dance Floors were named Roots & Traditional Album of the Year – Solo and Group, respectively.

David Francey, one of Canada's most revered singer-songwriters, had both the most-played album (So Say We All) and song ("Rain") on folk radio during May 2013, according to charts compiled by Richard Gillmann from radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in all folk-based music on the radio. The Boxcar Lilies, a western Massachusetts-based Americana harmony trio, had both the #2 album (Sugar Shack) and song ("Lightnin'").
