Danny Kalb, best known as a co-founder of the seminal band the Blues Project but who cut his musical teeth as part of the Greenwich Village folk scene of the early 1960s, died of cancer on November 19, 2022. He was 80.
The Woody Guthrie Center will honor singer-songwriter and activist Joan Baez with the 2020 Woody Guthrie Prize during this year’s virtual edition of the Philadelphia Folk Festival. Baez, who has performed at the festival numerous times, is slated to accept the award on August 16 in recognition of her groundbreaking career and impact on humanitarian causes over the span of 60 years.

Albums by Tim O'Brien, Red Horse (the new trio comprised of Eliza Gilkyson, John Gorka and Lucy Kaplansky), and Crooked Still continued in the top three spots on the Roots Music Report Folk Radio Chart last week.
