FAI Regional Conferences Go Virtual This Fall

Four Folk Alliance International regional affiliates have opted to present their annual conferences online this fall in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. First up is the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance (SWRFA) virtual conference that is slated for September 24-26. Folk Alliance Region-West (FAR-West) hosts its virtual conference October 14-16; Folk Alliance Region Midwest (FARM)’s Virtual Connections The Gathering takes place October 27-30; and the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) 2021 virtual conference is set for November 11-14. NERFA Celebrates 25 Years of Music and Community at Its Annual Conference, Nov. 7-10

Some 700 performing artists, presenters, promoters, agents and managers, folk DJs, and others actively engaged in contemporary and traditional folk music are expected to converge on the Crowne Plaza in Stamford, Connecticut, Nov. 7-10, 2019 for the 25th Annual Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) Conference. Kornfeld Re-elected President of NERFA Board; Tankle Retires as Conference Director

Michael Kornfeld, editor and publisher of AcousticMusicScene.com, was re-elected to a third term as president of the board of directors of the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) during its annual conference in Stamford, CT, in November 2018. Serving a region that extends from the northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC to Canada’s eastern provinces, NERFA is the largest regional affiliate of Folk Alliance International, a Kansas City-based nonprofit organization (on whose board Kornfeld also serves) that aims to serve, strengthen and engage the global folk music community through preservation, presentation and promotion. A Musical Tribute to Woody Guthrie, Artist Showcases Set for June 2 at UMass-Boston

The Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) invites the public to attend a 75-minute, hootenanny-style Musical Tribute to Woody Guthrie and a series of 15-minute artist showcases that will take place on Saturday, June 2, from 3-7 p.m., at the Lipke Auditorium on the University of Massachusetts Boston campus. These special events, for which $10 tickets will be available at the door, are part of a day-long mini-conference featuring workshops and panel discussions that the nonprofit organization is hosting to give artists, presenters, DJs, agents and others engaged in the folk music scene a small taste of what takes place during its annual conference in The Catskills each fall.
