In April 2012, 1000 Pound Machine, a new release by Nashville-based singer-songwriter Kate Campbell topped the albums chart, while the classic instrumental tune "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" by Earl Scruggs, the pioneering banjo player and bluegrass legend who died on March 28 at age 88, was reportedly the most-played song on folk radio during the month.

AcousticMusicScene.com is pleased to publish the monthly Top Albums and Songs charts compiled by Richard Gillmann from radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in all folk-based music on the radio. In March 2012, Little Blue Egg, a collection of archived home and studio recordings that Tracy Grammer and her late partner Dave Carter made between 1997 and 2002, topped the albums chart for a second month. It was followed by Lay Down, Lay Low, the new album by Shenandoah Valley-based Americana roots outfit The Steel Wheels, which also sported four of the month's top 10 most-played songs -- including "Breaking Like The Sun" at #1.

In November 2011, John McCutcheon's This Land: Woody Guthrie's America topped the albums chart and also sported three of the top five songs.

Beginning this month, AcousticMusicScene.com is pleased to publish the monthly Top Albums and Songs charts compiled by Richard Gillmann of KBCS-FM in Bellevue/Seattle, Washington, from radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in all folk-based music on the radio. In July 2011, Gillian Welch had both the top album and top two songs for the month, while the debut album by Brother Sun (the trio comprised of Greg Greenway, Joe Jencks and Pat Wictor) was #2 on the the albums chart. Scotland's Battlefield Band had both the #3 album and song for July.

Roots Music Report Folk Radio Chart, 07-16-10
Albums by Tim O'Brien, Red Horse (the new trio comprised of Eliza Gilkyson, John Gorka and Lucy Kaplansky), and Crooked Still retain the top three spots on the Roots Music Report Folk Radio Chart this week. Releases by Sally Spring and Mary Chapin Carpenter are in the fourth and fifth positions. The Folk Top 50 is posted here with permission.
