Top Albums, Songs of August 2016 (FOLKDJ-L)
Two folk trios -- Lancaster, Pennsylvania’s The Stray Birds and Nashville's The Belle Hollows -- had the most-played albums and songs on folk radio during August 2016. The Stray Birds’ Magic Fire was the #1 album, followed by The Belle Hollows’ debut release Miller’s Creek, while the two tied for most-played song. So say the airplay charts compiled by Richard Gillmann from radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in all folk-based music on the radio.

Glenn Yarbrough, 1930-2016
Glenn Yarbrough, a folksinger and frontman of the Limeliters, a popular West Coast-based folk trio during the folk revival of the early 1960s, and who later enjoyed some success as a solo artist, died August 11, 2016 in Nashville. He was 86.

50 Years with Peter, Paul and Mary Airs on PBS
Peter, Paul and Mary’s music and social activism helped to shape a generation. Through the years, the seminal folk trio has touched the hearts and consciences of millions of people worldwide, won five Grammy Awards, received eight gold and five platinum records, had 13 top 40 hits, and been the subject of five PBS documentaries. A new one entitled 50 Years with Peter, Paul and Mary has begun airing on PBS television stations throughout the U.S.
