In January 2012, Light In The Sky by the female Americana-roots trio Red Molly topped the albums chart and sported six of the top 25 songs. "Promised Land," the title track from the new album by Gina Forsyth, a singer-songwriter, violinist and guitarist from New Orleans, was reportedly the most-played song on folk radio during the month.

Albums by Pieta Brown Red Molly and Sarah MacDougall retain the top three spots on the Roots Music Report folk radio chart this week, while albums by Robert Earl Keen, Gillian Welch and Joe Ely continue to hold the top three spots on the roots country chart.

‘Phil Ochs: There But for Fortune’ Set to Air on PBS Stations
PBS Television's acclaimed American Masters' series of documentaries opens its 26th season with Phil Ochs: There But for Fortune this month. The revealing biography of a conflicted, truth-seeking troubadour who, with guitar in hand, stood up for what he believed in and challenged us all to do the same, premieres nationally on Monday, Jan. 23 at 10 p.m. (ET) on PBS stations (Check your local listings).

FARM Hosts One-Day Conference in Ohio on April 28
Following in the footsteps of the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance (SWRFA) and Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA), Folk Alliance Region Midwest (FARM) will host its first one-day conference on April 28, 2012 at the historic opera house in Fayette, Ohio, located on US 20 about 30 minutes west of Toledo. A condensed version of its annual four-day conference, this one-day event is being called FARMette.

Bruce Cockburn, Dave Gunning and Quebecois Trio Genticorum Among Top Canadian Folk Music Award Winners for 2011
The 2011 Canadian Folk Music Awards were presented in Toronto, Ontario on Sunday evening, Dec. 4. Winners were named in 19 categories and a new Unsung Hero award was presented during a gala event at the Isabel Bader Theatre. Bruce Cockburn, Dave Gunning and Quebecois trio Genticorum each won two awards.
