Memories and Moments by Tim O'Brien and Darrell Scott returned to the #1 spot on the Roots Music Report folk radio airplay chart last week, while Internal Sounds by Canadian alt-country rockers The Sadies advanced to the top position on the Americana-Roots Country chart.

Top Albums and Songs of June 2013 (FOLKDJ-L)
Ring Them Bells, the debut release by The Copper Ponies (Annie Donahue and Erik Balkey), was the most-played album on folk radio during June 2013 and also features three of the four most-played songs, according to charts compiled by Richard Gillmann from radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in all folk-based music on the radio. Closely following The Copper Ponies' debut were new albums by the Celtic band Burning Bridget Cleary and singer-songwriter Buddy Mondlock.

Speaking with Scott Alarik, Author of Revival: A Folk Music Novel
Noted folk music writer Scott Alarik may be best known for having covered folk music for The Boston Globe for more than 20 years and as a regular contributor to public radio. However, he also is the author of Revival: A Folk Music Novel that has drawn accolades from a number of luminaries on the contemporary folk scene. Kathy Sands-Boehmer posed some questions to him recently.

Philadelphia Folk Festival Set for Aug. 17-19
Mary Chapin Carpenter, Steve Earle and the Dukes, Mary Gauthier, Tracy Grammer, John Hiatt, Brother Sun, The Holmes Brothers, Little Feat, Mark Erelli, Lori McKenna, Atwater-Donnelly, Paul Thorn, Lucinda Williams, rockabilly queen Wanda Jackson, The HillBenders, Red Clay Ramblers, Roosevelt Dime and Spuyten Duyvil are among the dozens of artists and acts slated to perform during the 51st annual Philadelphia Folk Festival, August 17-19, at the Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford Township, near Schwenksville, Pennsylvania. The festival is produced and presented by the nonprofit Philadelphia Folksong Society.

Top Albums and Songs for July 2012 (FOLKDJ-L)
The music of Woody Guthrie dominated the folk radio airplay charts in July, as we marked the centennial of the birth of America's "Dust Bowl Troubadour." Woody at 100: The Woody Guthrie Centennial Collection (Smithsonian/Folkways)was the top album of the month on folk radio, according to charts compiled by Richard Gillmann from radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in all folk-based music on the radio. Four of the collection's songs were reportedly among the five most-played by folk DJs during July, while Bob Dylan's "Song to Woody" was #2.
