Appleseed’s 21st Anniversary: Roots and Branches by Various Artists was the top album on folk radio for a second consecutive month, while Tellico’s “Courage for the Morning” was the #1 song during November 2018. January is Music Festival Time in Florida
Floridians and visitors to the Sunshine State have opportunities to escape the winter doldrums and enjoy some fine music in mid-January. Both the South Florida Folk Festival and the 30A Songwriters Festival take place over the same weekend in different parts of the state.

Q & A with Dan Navarro
Singer-songwriter Dan Navarro spent more than 20 years as part of the acclaimed acoustic duo Lowen and Navarro; has penned songs covered by other notable artists (including the Grammy-nominated “We Belong” as sung by Pat Benatar); has been a singer and voice actor in numerous movies, television series and commercials; and is an ardent champion of songwriters’ and performers’ rights. Since the 2009 retirement of his late musical partner Eric Lowen, he’s been touring widely as a solo artist. Kathy Sands-Boehmer spoke with Navarro recently. Nickel Creek Reunites, Sets Spring Tour
Nickel Creek, the popular progressive acoustic trio that went on a self-described “indefinite hiatus” in 2007, is reuniting. To mark its 25th anniversary, the Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum-selling band will embark on a U.S. tour this spring and summer and is at work on a new album.

Nominees in more than 100 categories have been named for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, to be broadcast live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011 on CBS.

Q & A with John Platt of WFUV’s ‘Sunday Breakfast’
In a popular music landscape where today’s talented singer-songwriters are often ignored, it’s a little miracle to listen to radio stations — usually small, publicly-run or independent — that promote songwriters who might fall between the cracks. Among the many wonderful DJs out there supporting independent singer-songwriters in markets across the U.S., one of the most well-known and well-listened to is John Platt, host of “Sunday Breakfast” on New York’s WFUV. Sharon Goldman recently elicited his thoughts about the singer-songwriter scene for her blog, Songwriting Scene. Her Q & A interview with him is reprinted here with permission.
