
Remembering Jill Sobule, 1959-2025
Jill Sobule, 66, was groundbreaking and much revered and loved singer-songwriter and human rights activist best-known for her 1995 breakthrough hit single “I Kissed a Girl” (the first openly LGBTQ-themed song to crack the Billboard Top 20) and “Supermodel” from that year’s popular “Clueless” film soundtrack. Both songs appear on the first of her 12 albums. In the week since her tragic death in a Minnesota house fire on May 1, 2025 sent shockwaves through the folk and singer-songwriter communities, many of her fellow artists have expressed their grief and shared personal reflections on Facebook. Showcase Artists Sought for SS Cape May
Some 150 acts, from solo artists to full bands, will be selected to showcase at various venues over two nights during the ninth annual Singer Songwriter Cape May music business conference set for Friday-Saturday, March 18-19, 2016 in the historic Victorian-lined New Jersey seaside resort community. All artists who submit showcase applications by the Jan. 15 deadline will receive free registration for the conference whether or not they are slotted.

2013 Future of Music Summit Set for Oct. 28-29
How might proposed changes to federal copyright law impact musicians and songwriters? How can artists make sense of new digital platforms for generating revenue from their music? How are musicians advancing social change? These are among the many questions to be addressed during the 2013 Future of Music Summit at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 28-29.
