Top Albums and Songs of March 2014 (FOLKDJ-L)
One Evening in May, recorded live at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, California last May by bluegrass and Americana artist Laurie Lewis with friends Tom Rozum and Nina Gerber, was the most-played album on folk radio during March 2014, according to charts compiled by Richard Gillmann from radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in all folk-based music on the radio.

Top Albums and Songs of February 2014 (FOLKDJ-L)
Bright Side of Down, the new release by singer-songwriter John Gorka, was the most-played album on folk radio during February 2014, closely followed by Where Have All The Flowers Gone? The Songs of Pete Seeger, according to charts compiled by Richard Gillmann from radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in all folk-based music on the radio. Gorka's "Holed Up in Mason City" was reportedly the month's most-played song.

Folk Music Fills the Streets of New Bedford, July 6-7, 2013
The New Bedford Folk Festival, formerly known as the Greater New Bedford Summerfest, is one of the Northeast’s most pleasant, refined and enjoyable music festivals. Richard Meyer, Singer-Songwriter and Fast Folk Editor, 1952-2012
Richard Meyer, a singer-songwriter who also was an integral part of the folk music scene in New York’s Greenwich Village during the 1980s and 1990s as a booker for the Speakeasy and longtime editor of Fast Folk Musical Magazine (1986-1997), died May 14, 2012 at age 59.

Finalists Named in 2012 Wildflower! Performing Songwriter Contest
Ten finalists have been named in the 2012 Wildflower! Performing Songwriter Contest. Each will perform two songs on the Singer Songwriter Stage during the 20th annual Wildflower! arts and music festival in Richardson, Texas, just a few minutes north of Dallas. Billed as North Texas’ largest music festival, it takes place, May 18-20.

Festivals Set in the Northeast Over Independence Day Weekend

Jack Hardy, Singer-Songwriter and Fast Folk Founder, 1947-2011
Jack Hardy, a singer-songwriter who played a pivotal role in the New York folk/songwriting scene for several decades and influenced and inspired many other songwriters, died on March 11. His death at age 63 sent shockwaves through the folk community, with many posting short remembrances and tributes on Facebook -- the social networking platform.
