2017 Americana Honors & Awards Show to be Streamed Live on Sept. 13
The 2017 Americana Honors & Awards will be presented September 13 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. Hosted by Jim Lauderdale and featuring an all-star band led by Buddy Miller, the awards show is the highlight of the 18th annual AmericanaFest, a six-day festival and conference celebrating American roots-inspired music that is put on by the Americana Music Association. A live video stream of the show will be webcast via NPRMusic.org starting at 6:30 p.m. CDT, while a live simulcast will air on SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country and several Nashville area radio stations.

Sarah Elizabeth Campbell, 1953-2013
Sarah Elizabeth Campbell, an Austin, Texas-based performing songwriter, succumbed to liver cancer on Dec. 26, 2013 at the age of 60.The cancer stemmed from a rare form of Hepatitis C to which she had been exposed as a child.

Q & A with John Platt of WFUV’s ‘Sunday Breakfast’
In a popular music landscape where today’s talented singer-songwriters are often ignored, it’s a little miracle to listen to radio stations — usually small, publicly-run or independent — that promote songwriters who might fall between the cracks. Among the many wonderful DJs out there supporting independent singer-songwriters in markets across the U.S., one of the most well-known and well-listened to is John Platt, host of “Sunday Breakfast” on New York’s WFUV. Sharon Goldman recently elicited his thoughts about the singer-songwriter scene for her blog, Songwriting Scene. Her Q & A interview with him is reprinted here with permission.

Buddy Miller Wins a Slew of Americana Music Awards
Buddy Miller was the big winner during last night’s Eighth Annual Americana Music Association Honors & Awards Show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The acclaimed singer-songwriter, guitarist, producer and much sought-after collaborator and sideman, was named Artist of the Year and also won Album of the Year (for Written In Chalk, with wife Julie Miller), Duo/Group of the Year (again with Julie), and Song of the Year (“Chalk,” written by Julie and performed by Buddy and Patty Griffin.)

‘Performing Songwriter’ Ends 16-Year Run
Performing Songwriter is ceasing publication after 16 years. The magazine’s June 2009 issue, sent to subscribers and newsstands this week, will be its final edition, Lydia Hutchinson, its editor and publisher, has announced.
