Nominees in 83 categories have been named for the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards to be presented by the Recording Academy on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT during a live broadcast on CBS television stations. Bonny Light Horseman (a new folk group featuring Anais Mitchell, Eric D. Johnson and Josh Kaufman), Sarah Jarosz and the late John Prine lead the nominees in the American Roots Music Field with two nods each. David Olney, Beloved Singer-Songwriter, 1948-2020

David Olney, a revered folk and Americana singer-songwriter, died after suffering an apparent heart attack on Saturday night, Jan. 18, while onstage at the 30A Songwriters Festival in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. During a musical career that spanned more than four decades, Olney, 71, recorded and released more than 20 albums and had his songs covered or co-written by such other notable artists as Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Laurie Lewis, Del McCoury, and Linda Ronstadt. Remembering Kenny Edwards, 1946-2010

"A star has fallen; a really bright one." A memorial service is set for Sunday, Aug. 29, in Santa Barbara, California for Kenny Edwards, a driving force behind the American folk-rock movement of the 1960s and 1970s. He died on Aug. 18 at age 64. A guitarist’s guitarist, Edwards was a co-founder of the Stone Poneys and Bryndle and also collaborated with many other musical luminaries. Kate McGarrigle, Canadian Folksinger-Songwriter, 1946-2010

Canadian folksinger-songwriter Kate McGarrigle, who performed with her sister Anna as the McGarrigle Sisters for three decades, has died at age 63. Besides being an acclaimed and award-winning artist in her own right, McGarrigle was the mother of artists Rufus and Martha Wainwright through her previous marriage to singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III.
