Philadelphia Folk Festival Set for Aug. 17-19
Mary Chapin Carpenter, Steve Earle and the Dukes, Mary Gauthier, Tracy Grammer, John Hiatt, Brother Sun, The Holmes Brothers, Little Feat, Mark Erelli, Lori McKenna, Atwater-Donnelly, Paul Thorn, Lucinda Williams, rockabilly queen Wanda Jackson, The HillBenders, Red Clay Ramblers, Roosevelt Dime and Spuyten Duyvil are among the dozens of artists and acts slated to perform during the 51st annual Philadelphia Folk Festival, August 17-19, at the Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford Township, near Schwenksville, Pennsylvania. The festival is produced and presented by the nonprofit Philadelphia Folksong Society.

Finalists Named in 2012 Wildflower! Performing Songwriter Contest
Ten finalists have been named in the 2012 Wildflower! Performing Songwriter Contest. Each will perform two songs on the Singer Songwriter Stage during the 20th annual Wildflower! arts and music festival in Richardson, Texas, just a few minutes north of Dallas. Billed as North Texas’ largest music festival, it takes place, May 18-20.

A Quick Q & A with Mary Gauthier
Mary Gauthier is a Louisiana native and former restaurateur who didn’t turn to full-time songwriting until she was in her mid 30s. Mercy Now, her 2005 release on the Lost Highway label, made a number of publications’ annual top 10 albums lists and resulted in the singer-songwriter being hailed as the New/Emerging Artist of the Year by the Americana Music Association. Gauthier’s seventh and latest release is entitled The Foundling and was produced by Michael Timmons of the Cowboy Junkies. A number of other artists, including such notables as Jimmy Buffett and Tim McGraw, also have recorded her songs – many of which are autobiographical in nature. Kathy Sands-Boehmer posed a few questions to her recently.

January 2011 is Music Festival Time in Florida
Although most folk festivals in the U.S. happen outdoors during the summertime, at least two take place indoors on Florida’s respective coasts in January 2011: 30A Songwriters Festival and South Florida Folk Fest.
