2011 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition Open for Entries

Entries are now being sought for the 2011 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition for Emerging Songwriters to be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 28 and 29, during the 39th Annual Kerrville Folk Festival. The first 800 entries received via the mail or online by March 15, 2011 will be accepted. 32 finalists will be selected in April to perform the following month at the Threadgill Theater on the Quiet Valley Ranch Campgrounds in the Texas Hill Country. ‘The Peter Yarrow Sing-Along Special’ Airs on PBS Stations

The Peter Yarrow Sing-Along Special, featuring some of America’s favorite folk songs performed by Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul & Mary, Yarrow’s daughter Bethany and cellist Rufus Cappadocia, Grammy Award-winning artists Mary Chapin Carpenter and Keb’ Mo', and percussionist Billy Jonas, airs on PBS stations through December 2010. Entry Deadline Nears for 2010 Music2Life Songwriting Contest

February 1 is the entry deadline for the annual Music2Life Songwriting Contest. Established in 2000, the songwriting contest is sponsored by the Public Domain Foundation, a nonprofit organization launched by Noel Paul Stookey (Peter, Paul & Mary) more than 30 years ago to encourage the making and use of music for social change. Theodore Bikel Tribute Concert at NYC’s Carnegie Hall, June 15

Acclaimed actor and folksinger Theodore Bikel, who turned 85 last month, will be feted on Monday evening, June 15, during a tribute concert at New York’s famed Carnegie Hall, where the versatile baritone made his debut in 1956. Joining him on stage will be Alan Alda, Arlo Guthrie, Noel Paul Stookey, Peter Yarrow, Tom Paxton, The Klezmatics, Judy Kaye, Susan Werner, David Amram, Beyond the Pale, Artie Butler, Patricia, Conolly, David Krakauer, Hankus Netsky, Sarah Horowitz, Serendipity 4 (featuring Bikel, Tamara Brooks, Merlima Kljuco and Shura Lipovsky), and Michael Wex.
