William Prince and David Francey Win JUNO Awards

William Prince’s Stand in the Joy was named Contemporary Roots Album of the Year and David Francey’s The Breath Between won Traditional Roots Album of the Year during the 53rd annual JUNO Awards ceremonies on March 23, 2024 at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Members of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) selected award recipients in these and other categories. 2011 Future of Music Policy Summit Set for Oct. 3-4 in Washington; Online Survey on How Artists Make $ from Music Launches Sept. 6

How can artists earn a living in today’s changing music landscape? What’s the future of mobile music? Does the future of music licensing portend a new world order or a system collapse? These are among the many questions to be addressed during the 2011 Future of Music Policy Summit at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Monday - Tuesday, Oct.3-4. The nonprofit Future of Music Coalition also is enlisting U.S.-based professional musicians and composers across genres to participate in an online survey between Sept. 6 and Oct. 28 as part of its multifaceted Artist Revenue Streams research project. Kate McGarrigle, Canadian Folksinger-Songwriter, 1946-2010

Canadian folksinger-songwriter Kate McGarrigle, who performed with her sister Anna as the McGarrigle Sisters for three decades, has died at age 63. Besides being an acclaimed and award-winning artist in her own right, McGarrigle was the mother of artists Rufus and Martha Wainwright through her previous marriage to singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III. McGarrigle, who had been battling a rare form of cancer, died at her Montreal home on Monday night, January 18. [To read the entire article, click on the headline.]
