Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Finalists Named
Thirty-two songwriters have been named as finalists in the 2013 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition for Emerging Songwriters. Chosen from among more than 700 submissions from throughout the U.S. and Canada, the finalists will perform the two songs they submitted during the New Folk Concerts slated for Saturday and Sunday afternoons, May 25 and 26, as part of the Kerrville Folk Festival.

Rose Garden Coffeehouse Hosts 21st Annual Performing Songwriter Competition
April 15 is the entry deadline for the 21st Annual Rose Garden Coffeehouse Performing Songwriter Competition. Judges will select three finalists to perform their two submitted songs during live finals on May 18, preceding The Squeezebox Stompers’ featured performance that evening, says Mac McLanahan, artistic director for the monthly, all-volunteer, nonprofit acoustic music series. Now in its 24th year, the Rose Garden Coffeehouse takes place at The Congregational Church in Mansfield, Massachusetts.

Entries Sought for SolarFest Singer-Songwriter Showcase
SolarFest, which bills itself as New England’s renewable energy festival, is seeking songwriters to perform in its 11th annual Singer-Songwriter Showcase this July. Ten singer-songwriters, who write and perform original music and are not currently signed to a major recording label, will be selected to perform two songs each and compete to be among the three winners of cash prizes and studio time.

Folk Alliance International Seeks War & Political Songs for CD
Modern war and political songs are being sought for inclusion on a special compilation CD release to benefit Folk Alliance International (FAI), as well as to create a fund to provide acoustic instruments for returning soldiers who were injured in combat.
