The Philadelphia Songwriters Project Seeks Contest Entries
Entries will be accepted through March 26 in the 2013 songwriting contest produced by The Philadelphia Songwriters Project, which is open to performing songwriters in all genres. Songs will be judged based on lyrics, music, originality and presentation. Winners will earn performance opportunities during various festivals and concert series in Pennsylvania this summer and fall.

A.J. Croce Wins International Acoustic Music Awards
A.J. Croce is the overall grand prize winner in the ninth annual International Acoustic Music Awards. He also captured first place in the competition’s AAA/Alternative category for “I Should Have Known.”

Tony Denikos Wins Mid-Atlantic Song Contest
Tony Denikos has been named the grand prize winner in the 29th Annual Mid-Atlantic Song Contest produced by the Songwriters' Association of Washington. The Sykesville, Maryland-based contemporary folk-Americana singer-songwriter was honored during an awards gala on Jan. 7 at Jammin’ Java in Vienna, Virginia. Denikos was recognized for his song, “Tip of My Tongue,” which was previously named the first place (Gold) winner in the contest’s Folk/Acoustic category.

2013 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition Open for Entries
Entries are now being sought for the 2013 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition for Emerging Songwriters to be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26, 2013, during the 42nd Annual Kerrville Folk Festival. The first 800 entries received via the mail or online by March 8, 2013 will be accepted, and 32 finalists will be named in April.

Entries Sought for International Acoustic Music Awards
Entries are currently being accepted for the International Acoustic Music Awards. Now in its ninth year, the competition promotes excellence in acoustic music performance and artistry. Awards will be presented in eight categories: Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Best Group/Duo, Folk/Americana/Roots, AAA/Alternative, Instrumental, Bluegrass/Country, and an Acoustic Open Genre category. An overall Grand Prize winner also will be named.

Six Winners Named in 2012 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition
Five songwriters and a songwriting duo have been named as winners in the 2012 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition for Emerging Songwriters. Edie Carey (Chicago, IL), Nicolette Good (San Antonio, TX), Whit Hill (Nashville, TN), Korby Lenker (Nashville, TN), Alicia McGovern (Salt Lake City, Utah), and The Sea The Sea (a contemporary duo featuring Connecticut Sate Troubadour Chuck E. Costa and West Virginia's Mira Stanley) were selected from among 32 finalists who performed two songs each during the New Folk Concerts on May 26 and 27 as part of the Kerrville Folk Festival, an 18-day event that continues through Sunday, June 10, at the Quiet Valley Ranch in the Texas Hill Country.

Thirty-two songwriters have been named as finalists in the 2012 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition for Emerging Songwriters. Chosen from among 800 submissions from around the world, the finalists will perform the two songs they submitted during the New Folk Concerts slated for Saturday and Sunday afternoons, May 26 and 27, as part of the Kerrville Folk Festival.

Finalists Named in 2012 Wildflower! Performing Songwriter Contest
Ten finalists have been named in the 2012 Wildflower! Performing Songwriter Contest. Each will perform two songs on the Singer Songwriter Stage during the 20th annual Wildflower! arts and music festival in Richardson, Texas, just a few minutes north of Dallas. Billed as North Texas’ largest music festival, it takes place, May 18-20.

Arthur Alligood Wins 2011 Mountain Stage NewSong Contest
Arthur Alligood has been named the grand prize winner in the 10th annual Mountain Stage NewSong Contest.Alligood, who hails from the small town of White House, TN, near Nashville, was chosen from among more than 2,000 entrants and selected from among 12 finalists. The international finals for the noted performing songwriter contest -- presented by the live performance radio show and produced by the independent music organization NewSong Music -- took place last Thursday evening, Oct. 20, at the World Financial Center’s Wintergarden in New York City.
