Top Albums, Songs of August 2016 (FOLKDJ-L)
Two folk trios -- Lancaster, Pennsylvania’s The Stray Birds and Nashville's The Belle Hollows -- had the most-played albums and songs on folk radio during August 2016. The Stray Birds’ Magic Fire was the #1 album, followed by The Belle Hollows’ debut release Miller’s Creek, while the two tied for most-played song. Philadelphia Folk Festival Set for Aug. 18-21
Thousands of music lovers are expected to converge on Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford Township, near bucolic Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, Aug. 18-21, for the annual Philadelphia Folk Festival. Now in its 55th year, the event, produced and presented by the Philadelphia Folksong Society, is the longest continuously running musical festival of its kind in North America.

Folk Alliance International Conference, Camp & Fair Set for Feb. 17-21 in Kansas City
Kansas City, Missouri may be better known for jazz, blues, barbecue and the Royals. However, more than 2,500 people are expected to converge on this midwestern metropolis Feb. 17-21, 2016, for the 28th Annual Folk Alliance International Conference, a concurrent music camp, and a new Kansas City Folk Festival on Sunday.

Top Albums, Songs, Artists of 2014 (FOLKDJ-L)
New York-based female Americana roots trio Red Molly had the most-played album (The Red Album) on folk radio during 2014, while Indiana-based singer-songwriter Tim Grimm had the most-played song (“King of the Folksingers”), according to charts compiled by Richard Gillmann from radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in all folk-based music on the radio. Pete Seeger, the American folk music icon who died last January at 94, was the most-played artist.

Folk harmony trio Brother Sun's sophomore release, Some Part of the Truth, was the most-played album on folk radio during 2013. The trio -- comprised of veteran touring singer-songwriters Joe Jencks, Greg Greenway and Pat Wictor -- also had the most-played song, Jencks’"Lady of the Harbor," according to charts compiled by Richard Gillmann from radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic discussion group for DJs and others interested in all folk-based music on the radio.
The FOLKDJ-L charts are based on 157,864 airplays from 187 different DJs. The number of reported spins (airplays) is shown in parentheses, while label and release dates appear in brackets. They are posted, with permission, on AcousticMusicScene.com.

2013 Connecticut Folk Festival & Green Expo Set for Sept. 7
The eighth annual Connecticut Folk Festival and Green Expo, a free, day-long event, is set for Saturday, Sept. 7, in New Haven’s Edgerton Park. It will feature performances by singer-songwriter Darrell Scott and folk harmony trios Brother Sun and The Stray Birds, among others.

AcousticMusicScene.com Hosts Late-Night Music at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival
AcousticMusicScene.com will host a series of late-night song swaps, mini-showcases and open song circles during the 25th annual Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, August 1-4, in partnership with Pirate Camp, which was informally launched by Stuart Kabak and the late Jack Hardy a decade ago to provide a warm and welcoming haven for sharing music, food and camaraderie.

The Stray Birds' debut full-length CD topped the albums chart, while also sporting the #1 most-played song - "Dream in Blue."

New Music Seminar and New York Music Festival, June 17-20, 2012
New Music Seminar, the granddaddy of American music conferences, returns to New York, June 17-20. In addition to a number of daytime panels, workshops, intensives and keynotes at Manhattan’s Webster Hall, an accompanying NMS New York Music Festival will feature four nights of performances in 17 New York City venues. These include three nights of acoustic music showcases at The Living Room, hosted by Folk Alliance International.
