The Southwest Regional Folk Alliance (SWRFA) has slated a free one-day event for Oklahoma’s music community on Saturday, June 27, at the Oklahoma City Downtown Library, 300 Park Ave. from 9:30a.m. 5 p.m. Open to artists, promoters, booking agents, record label representatives, radio, media, music publishers, film archivists, music educators and others involved in the music industry, the day will feature artist showcases, panel discussions, and networking events.

Hosted by K.C. Clifford (an Oklahoma-based singer/songwriter and SWRFA board member) and Dalis Allen (SWRFA’s executive director), the event also includes a free lunch. Panel topics include Venues/Booking – What Venues Want Artists to Know and Media/PR & the Changing Face of Music Promotion. More information is available by calling (405) 210-1852.

“I’m excited to bring the Folk Alliance experience to Oklahoma City,” says Clifford. “I have long felt that our state was under-represented in the Folk Alliance community,” she notes, citing Oklahoma’s rich musical heritage, which includes being the birthplace of Woody Guthrie. “Dalis Allen and I decided to try and raise awareness of the organization by presenting a free one-day event for the Oklahoma music community that will be a good cross-section of what a Folk Alliance conference is like.”

A regional affiliate of the Folk Alliance International that covers the states of Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas, SWRFA also holds a regional conference each fall. This year’s conference is set for September 24 – 27 in Austin, Texas.

Founded in 1989, Folk Alliance International seeks to foster and promote traditional, contemporary, and multicultural folk music, dance, and related performing arts in North America.
