MerleFest, one of America’s most popular roots-oriented music festivals, will announce its artist lineup for 2010 during a one-hour radio special on North Carolina public radio station WNCW (streaming online at www.wncw.org) on Thursday, October 22, at 8 p.m. EDT. John Adair, artist relations executive for the festival, is slated to join WNCW host Martin Anderson on the show that also will feature songs from some of the festival performers.

Celebrating the music of the late instrumental virtuoso Merle Watson and his father Doc Watson, the “traditional-plus” music festival that features traditional, roots-oriented sounds of the Appalachian region –from bluegrass and Americana to old-time, country and roots music — takes place April 29 – May 2 on the campus of Wilkes Community College in Wilkesboro, North Carolina.

Unique musical collaborations and spontaneous jam sessions have been highlights of the MerleFest since its inception 23 years ago. The festival also features the finals of the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest, instrument contests, a Friday night songwriter showcase coffeehouse and open mic, heritage crafts by regional artisans, children’s activities, and plenty of pickin’ opportunities.

The MerleFest box office opens for 2010 ticket sales on November 10. Tickets can be purchased online at www.merlefest.org or by calling 1-800-343-7857.
