Caitlin Canty, a Vermont-bred, New York City-based singer-songwriter with an Americana-rootsy rock style, won the 2015 Telluride Troubadour Competition. She then performed a short set on the main stage during the 42nd Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival, a roots-oriented music festival set amid Colorado’s rugged San Juan Mountains, June 18-21.

Canty has recorded and released several CDs. Her latest, Reckless Skyline, was produced by noted songwriter Jeffrey Foucault and released in late January to critical acclaim. Hailed in the San Francisco Chronicle as “the next great Americana star,” Canty also has been described in Elmore Magazine as “a rare and intelligent talent” whose “voice is soft, sure and brings to mind Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch.”

Currently touring in support of Reckless Skyline, Canty had several sold-out CD release shows earlier this year. She will grace the main stage during next month’s Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale, New York as part of its “Most Wanted” Song Swap. She was one of four artists selected by audience members from among 24 acts who performed in last summer’s Emerging Artists Showcase.

Telluride Troubadour is a nationally recognized performing songwriter competition open to anyone who writes and performs original music and who is not currently signed to a major recording or publishing deal. Canty was one of ten finalists chosen from among more than 300 entrants on the basis of the quality of their songs’ composition, vocal delivery and the overall performance. After performing in two finalist rounds during the festival, she was named the winner, awarded cash and other prizes, and performed a 15-minute set on the main stage, preceding Lake Street Dive, on June 21.

Second- to fifth-place honors at Telluride went to Hadley Kennary, Maria Brosgol, Carter Sampson and Rachael Kilgour, respectively.
