Suzi Wollenberg, folk music coordinator and host of “Roots” on Tuesday mornings on WVUD 91.3 FM, “the voice of the University of Delaware,” died suddenly on Saturday morning, August 8. Four songwriters have been named as finalists in the Avalonfest ’09 Performing Songwriter Competition. Rhobb Elliott of North Carolina, Robyn Kay of New York, David Kleiner of Pennsylvania, and Steve Warner of West Virginia will strut their stuff on the festival’s Mountain Stage on Friday afternoon, August 7.
Sandy Paton, a traditional folksinger, folklorist and co-founder of Folk-Legacy, has died at the age of 80. Paton, who launched the independent label based in Sharon, Connecticut with his wife Caroline and the late Lee Haggerty in 1961, passed away on July 26.
Sharon Goldman has mixed feelings when it comes to songwriting contests. The New York-based singer-songwriter, who recently launched a blog for songwriters called Songwriting Scene, shares her thoughts with AcousticMusicScene.com readers.
